It is with a blended feeling of humility and sense of achievement that I write these lines. The first issue of Safety & Security Today is in your hands and I, along with my team, are so delighted for achieving this landmark. We are pioneering this venture as there is no other magazine in Pakistan that exclusively focusses on safety and security issues. I have been asked by many well-wishers that why I have ventured into the unchartered waters and could have gone for a trendier magazine that attracts broader readership – indeed a pertinent question. About a year ago Aaron Azlam Pvt Ltd decided to launch this magazine. The Company is already into the business of security, covering consultancy, training and deployment of security systems – thus the relevance. Additionally, safety of life and property in all spheres is a matter of great significance in our country. There is a general apathy and callousness towards ensuring the required standards of safety in our industrial sector. A need was felt to create greater awareness and monitoring through a magazine.
Primarily due to globalization, there is an increased emphasis on standardization, benchmarking and regulatory compliance in all the fields including safety and security. We in Safety & Security Today intend to create greater awareness in this area amongst the stake holders in particular and the public in general. The readers will find a happy combination of specific to industry safety issues and those of interest of a common citizen. Through this assortment, the magazine intends to attract wider readership and impact both society and industry.
Pakistan has been a victim of a prolonged and destructive spate of terrorism. Thanks to the resilience of Pakistani nation and its security forces, particularly Army, terrorism has been virtually eliminated. This notwithstanding, terrorism is still being aided and abetted by forces inimical to Pakistan. Sporadic and intermittent terrorist incidents, causing loss of lives and property, are likely to persist. The public will continue to be targeted by common criminals unless the society and the state comes up with a highly effective system of crime prevention. This is not likely soon due to a host of reasons. Thus, awareness and counter measures by the individuals, companies and institutions is of greater significance. Fire hazards have been intrinsic to the human life and its development. It is a matter of utter disappointment that prevention from fire hazards and firefighting is perhaps the most neglected area in our country. We intend to cover this utterly important matter with a sense of conviction.
I will also take the opportunity to thank all the members of my team in Safety & Security Today who have proactively strived to make a dream come true. My gratitude to our sponsors and well-wishers for their valuable support.
