TAPI project on right track, Turkmenistan tells Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A delegation from Turkmenistan on Wednesday informed Pakistan that the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) Pipeline had seen significant progress and was on the right track.

This development was shared by TAPI Pipeline Company Limited CEO Muhammetmyrat Amanov, who is part of a high-level delegation on a two-day visit to Pakistan.

Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov led the delegation, which comprised  Ata Haljanov, head of the International Economic Cooperation Division at Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Eziz Nazarov, head of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Muhammetmyrat Amanov, Chairman of the Board and CEO of TAPI Pipeline Company Ltd; Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan; and Eldar Permanov, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Turkmenistan.

The delegation met top Pakistani officials in Islamabad, including Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik Additional Secretary Hasan Yousafzai, Joint Secretary Shahbaz Tahir, and MD of Interstate Gas Systems Limited, Nadeem Bajwa.

Both sides agreed to expedite work on the TAPI gas pipeline project. The federal minister said that the project would lower energy costs in addition to boosting industrial growth, creating jobs, and fostering economic development.

“This project is aimed at fostering economic integration and energy security, has witnessed substantial progress through collaborative efforts and resolved continuous engagement among both countries. Pakistan is fully committed to this project which is significant for regional energy cooperation and infrastructure development,” Dr Musadik Malik said.
