ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet will discuss a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy in its August session.
This was announced by Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal. The minister was chairing a meeting of the Special Task Force on AI.
During the meeting, the minister called on relevant parties to accelerate their consultations with stakeholders as it pertains to the AI policy. “Artificial intelligence is not the future but the present reality in the world,” he said.
Iqbal also highlighted the government’s milestones in AI, noting the establishment of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence in 2017 and the National Task Force on Artificial Intelligence in 2023 as the more recent developments. He underscored the importance of these initiatives for advancing Pakistan’s capabilities in artificial intelligence.
“Pakistan must catch up with the world in artificial intelligence,” the minister said.
