MULTAN: Student protest triggered by the death of a female student on Tuesday led to the closure of Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture.
Minahil, 21, was hit by a bus on Monday resulting in her death. The deceased was a student of fifth semester at the Department of Biochemistry.
Shah Shams Police Station House Officer (SHO) Rao Mehtab told media that the girl’s father did not want to file a complaint with the police, and a formal investigation could only be launched if a First Information Report (FIR) is filed.
The bus driver involved in the accident, identified as Aamir, has been suspended pending investigation.
MNSUA spokesperson Riaz Hiraj said that the unfortunate accident occurred early in the morning, adding that the girl driver might’ve lost control of her vehicle before the accident.
“We have the CCTV footage of the accident. We showed it to his parents and after watching it, the father admitted that the bus driver was not at fault,” he explained.
Despite the explanation from the university, several student groups have intensified their protests.
