The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has released a special traffic plan for the SCO summit taking place in Islamabad next Tuesday and Wednesday (October 15 and 16).
Over 585 ITP personnel will be stationed in the twin towns of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to facilitate efficient traffic flow and direct people via detours in order to guarantee the successful conduct of the summit.
Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena, Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur, and Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel are just a few of the important highways being closed during the summit. A backup plan has been established to minimize any disruptions.
Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Park Road would provide an alternate route for travelers from Murree and Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi.
Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road are also accessible to people going from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu and Murree.
Additional options for the Srinagar Highway to Murree and Bhara Kahu are Chand Tara Chowk and the Pak China Centre.
When heavy traffic from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi is routed by Chak Beli Road to the Chakri motorway, it will be diverted to the Taxila road and the Tarnol Railway crossing from Peshawar.
The service road will be used as a diversion when the route connecting Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk is blocked.
Heavy traffic would not be allowed to enter Islamabad between October 14 and October 16, 2024. Islamabad’s Chief Traffic Officer, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, guarantees that traffic police officers would direct residents and offer detours.
Social media platforms and FM Radio 92.4 provide residents with up-to-date traffic information.
