Punjab University student commits suicide

A fifth-semester student in the Institute of Education and Research (IER) department at Punjab University allegedly committed suicide in their room.

Umme Habiba, who lived in room number 74 at Punjab University’s dormitory number 08 with her sister, committed suicide by hanging herself with her friend’s room number 91’s ceiling fan.

The hostel warden broke down the room’s door and found the girl’s body hanging from the ceiling fan.

Following the incident, the police received notification and dispatched female officers. They then started looking into the circumstances behind the student’s death.

In a separate development, Punjab police arrested a private college security guard in the Gulberg neighborhood of Lahore earlier on Sunday on charges of sexually assaulting a student.

According to DIG Operations, the accused guard involved in the rape assault fled into hiding when word of the crime spread on social media.

Within ten hours of the occurrence, the police were able to apprehend the accused security guard of Punjab College.

The representative further stated that legal actions are being taken in addition to efforts to find the victim and her family.
