Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has introduced the Kisan Card program in Hafizabad to assist farmers by reducing the role of intermediaries and ensuring they receive direct benefits.
Leaders of the Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N), including Maryam Aurangzeb and Rana Sanaullah, were present at the ceremony where the cards were given to farmers.
According to Maryam, the idea was initially intended to be introduced by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but he was unable to attend because of his foreign obligations.
She emphasized the government’s dedication to creating policies that address the effects of increased wheat prices and put farmer wellbeing first.
“We received criticism for not buying wheat sooner, but we still prioritize protecting farmers’ profit margins,” she continued.
With 1.5 million applications accepted, Maryam also announced the upcoming Green Tractor Scheme.
The government would provide subsidies of up to Rs1 million for tractors that cost approximately Rs4 million as part of the initiative.
A Rs10–15 billion project would also establish machinery hubs in every tehsil, giving farmers access to reasonably priced equipment.
She announced intentions to solarise tube wells that are now powered by petrol and diesel, with an initial objective of converting 7,000 units, in an effort to slash energy costs and farmers’ electricity bills.
