The Government of Pakistan issues passport to its bonafide citizens through the Directorate of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) to facilitate their journey and provide them protection abroad.
The holder of a valid Pakistan passport, when in a foreign country, is entitled to the protection of diplomatic and consular representative of Pakistan in that country.
The passport is the only document that confirms the identity of the citizen abroad of Pakistan, as well as, realizes his/her right to exit from the country and entry into the country.
There are different types of passport but ordinary type of travel document is issued to all citizens of Pakistan for travel abroad, subject to completion of all codal formalities.
Those who are acquiring passport for 1st time, they are required to visit the relevant Passport Office / Foreign Mission along with the required documents.
Duration for Issuance of Passport
As per the official website of DGI&P, the normal category passports are issued within 21 working days while it took five working days in urgent category.
However, people are facing extra ordinary delay in getting their passports as it takes over four months for issuance of passport in normal category.
Latest Normal and Urgent Category Inland Passport Fee
The Government of Pakistan has revised the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) with DGI&P notifying the following revisions.
The new fee for 36-page ordinary passport for five years, as of November 4, is Rs5,500 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges), while the urgent processing fee has increased to Rs8,500 ((inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges).
For 10-year validity period, the fee for 36-page passport has been increased from Rs6,700 to Rs7,700 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges), with the urgent fee rising to Rs12,200 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges).
For 72-page passport for 5 years, applicants will have to pay Rs9,200 ((inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for normal processing and Rs14,500 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for urgent processing.
For 100-page passport valid for 10 years, the new fee surged to Rs14,500 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for regular processing and Rs28,200 (inclusive of Rs1,000 as services charges) for urgent processing.
