Sindh minister for independent MDCAT take

According to Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) should be administered independently by each university because the existing large-scale approach compromises transparency.

Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho and USAID Mission Director Kate Somvongsiri launched a new Family Planning Skills Lab at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in a bid to enhance reproductive health services in Sindh.

Dr Azra emphasized the importance of family planning in improving public health and addressing the province’s needs.

She pointed out that many women resort to terminating pregnancies, highlighting the need for better family planning options and child-spacing services.

In her speech, Dr Azra also recommended that each university conduct its own MDCAT exam to ensure transparency and reduce the risk of paper leaks.

She stated that the current national-level exam makes it difficult to manage such large numbers of students fairly.

The Family Planning Skills Lab, set up with USAID’s support, will provide essential training and facilities for doctors and health workers, helping them offer better family planning services.

Dr Azra also touched on other health priorities, including strengthening the immunization program and tackling diseases like polio, dengue, and malaria, stressing the need for continued public health efforts.
