The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Thursday approved the appointment of nine additional judges to the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi chaired a meeting to evaluate nominations for high court judges. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) reviewed multiple candidates for the vacant positions.
The nominees included Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Malik Waqar Haider Awan, Sardar Akbar Ali, Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Malik Javid Iqbal Wains, Muhammad Jawad Zafar, Khalid Ishaq, Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid, and Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood—all Supreme Court advocates.
The commission stated that candidates who did not secure the required majority for confirmation may be reconsidered for future vacancies. The meeting focused on enhancing the judicial appointment process to ensure transparency and efficiency.
JCP also introduced updated regulations for judge appointments, emphasizing a merit-based selection system. The Supreme Court’s Registrar Office confirmed that the process aims to fill judicial vacancies effectively while upholding high professional standards.
