Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V, the new imam of Ismaili Muslims, has urged his followers to take action in protecting the climate.
The Takht Nashini ceremony, held in Lisbon, formally marked his ascension. During the ceremony, Prince Rahim accepted pledges of allegiance from representatives of the global Ismaili community.
In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to the well-being of his followers. He emphasized the importance of balancing worldly and spiritual matters, encouraged the community to take a leadership role in addressing climate change, and urged members to be loyal citizens of their respective countries.
Born on October 12, 1971, Prince Rahim is the eldest son of Aga Khan IV. Educated in the United States, he has served on the boards of several agencies within the Aga Khan Development Network and chairs its Environment and Climate Committee.
The funeral of Aga Khan IV took place in Lisbon, attended by dignitaries including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Spain’s King Emeritus Juan Carlos. After the ceremony, he was laid to rest in Aswan, Egypt, in the mausoleum of his grandfather, Aga Khan III.
Prince Rahim’s leadership begins a new chapter for the Ismaili community as they continue under his guidance.
