Pakistani security forces killed 14 militants in an intelligence-based operation in the North Waziristan district of the country’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said on Wednesday.
The operation, which took place over two days, targeted militants reportedly linked to a foreign-sponsored network. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the action was launched based on credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the region. During the operation, security personnel surrounded the hideout and engaged in an intense exchange of fire with the militants.
As a result of the encounter, 14 terrorists were killed. The military confirmed that the group had ties to foreign elements aiming to destabilize the area. The operation is part of a broader strategy to eliminate threats from external and internal militant networks. Following the gunfight, the forces began clearance operations to secure the surroundings and ensure that no other militants remained in the area. The military also reinforced its commitment to continue operations against terrorism across the country.
North Waziristan, which lies along the border with Afghanistan, has remained a key region in Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts. It has seen repeated military operations aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. Security officials believe that groups operating from the border regions often receive support from foreign sources. The military’s recent operation is viewed as a significant blow to such networks.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts will continue until all terrorist threats are neutralized, ensuring national security and long-term regional peace. The operation highlights the ongoing challenges in securing border districts and protecting the lives of citizens from militant violence.
