EOBI increases pensions by 15% for registered workers

The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Government of Pakistan, issued a formal notification on July 30th regarding a 15% increase in EOBI pensions, following final approval from the Federal Cabinet.

The federal government has announced major relief measures for workers and pensioners. The marriage award for workers has been doubled, showing a 100 percent increase. At the same time, the death grant has been raised by 50 percent. Officials said these steps reflect the efforts of Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain to support the labor community. In another key development, the government has approved a 15 percent increase in pensions under the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI). This hike will apply from January 1, 2025. The increase aims to give financial relief to retired citizens who depend on pensions for their daily needs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also chaired a cabinet meeting where he stressed the importance of improving government performance. He announced that ministries will be reviewed every two months to check their progress. Each ministry will be evaluated based on clear performance indicators. Ministries showing good results will be appreciated, while those falling short will face corrective or disciplinary action.

The Prime Minister said this system will help raise the overall performance level of the government and ensure better service delivery to the public. These measures are part of a wider plan to support workers, pensioners, and improve government accountability. Experts believe the pension raise and grant increases will give much-needed relief to low-income families across the country.
