Karachi traffic police launches camera-based traffic fines

Karachi’s traffic police have begun phase two of their awareness campaign as they prepare to roll out the new e-challan system.

Traffic violations will soon lead to automatic fines backed by digital evidence. Karachi. The step aims to improve public understanding of traffic laws and reduce violations through education. In a recent meeting, Karachi DIG Traffic discussed joint efforts with outdoor advertising companies to support the campaign. Following this, over 100 key spots across Karachi will now display awareness material through streamers, signboards, and other outdoor media. These messages will focus on promoting safe driving and following traffic rules.

The campaign will also include informative videos and images to be shared across digital platforms. Authorities hope this will help citizens prepare for the new faceless e-challan system that is set to launch soon. Under this system, traffic violations will be captured using cameras and digital tools. Violators will receive automatic challans at their registered addresses through postal service. Citizens can also check their challan status using the official mobile app of Karachi Traffic Police.

Officials have urged all drivers and motorcyclists to follow traffic rules to avoid fines and inconvenience. Separately, the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has extended the deadline for replacing old number plates with new Ajrak-designed and security-featured plates. The new deadline is now October 31. This extension was made after Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed authorities to provide more time to vehicle owners. The traffic police and excise department continue to take steps aimed at improving law enforcement, public safety, and compliance across the city.
