Murree traffic police have announced a detailed traffic management plan for August 14 to ensure smooth movement and facilitate tourists during Independence Day celebrations.
Chief Traffic Officer Waseem Akhtar said more than 200 traffic officers will be on duty to regulate the flow of vehicles and guide tourists. According to the plan, major routes such as the Expressway and RMK GT Road will stay open for traffic from Rawalpindi and Islamabad. To manage movement more efficiently, several roads including View Forth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Imtiaz Shaheed Road will operate as one-way routes. Mall Road, one of Murree’s busiest tourist areas, will be closed to all vehicles to ensure pedestrian comfort and safety.
Murree has been divided into five sectors to improve traffic control. Heavy vehicles, including large buses, will be restricted, with entry banned from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Such vehicles will be stopped at Murree Brewery, Bansra Gali, and Lower Topa. Vehicles heading toward Azad Kashmir will be diverted to the Expressway to avoid congestion in the city. Parking rules have been tightened to address long-standing issues. Parking will not be allowed within 200 meters of important intersections such as GPO Chowk, Jhika Gali Chowk, Kuldana Chowk, and Sunny Bank Chowk. GPO Chowk will be a complete parking-free zone. Tourists are advised to use only official parking areas to prevent traffic jams.
The CTO urged visitors to cooperate by following traffic rules, paying attention to signboards, and listening to wardens’ guidance. For any traffic-related assistance, a dedicated Traffic Control Room is available at 051-9269200. The traffic police said that with public cooperation, Murree can offer a safe and enjoyable holiday experience for all.
