The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced on Wednesday that there will be no gas suspension in Karachi’s District West on August 14, reversing an earlier decision.
The shutdown, originally set from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., was meant to facilitate the relocation of a gas pipeline at the request of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board. The affected localities were to include Haroonabad SITE Area, Sher Shah, SITE, Jehanabad, Mianwali Colony, Lashari Mohalla, Metroville, Bawani Chali, Pathan Colony, Old Golimar, Rexer Colony, Hasan Oliya, and Muslimabad. Industrial areas such as SITE Industrial Area, Gulbai, Mauripur, Tikri Village, and Muslim Colony were also expected to face outages.
However, the Water Board’s related pipeline restoration program has now been postponed. In view of the Independence Day holiday and to avoid inconvenience for residents, SSGC’s management decided to delay the maintenance work to a later date. According to the company, gas supply will now continue as normal on August 14, ensuring that households and businesses can carry out their holiday activities without disruption. This move aims to support consumers during a day when demand for gas is often higher due to gatherings, events, and special meals.
An SSGC spokesperson clarified that the earlier notice regarding the shutdown should now be considered withdrawn. The company will announce a revised schedule for the maintenance and pipeline relocation work in the future, and urged customers to stay updated through official channels.
