Investigators retrieved the black box, the cockpit voice recorder, of the KP government’s MI-17 helicopter from the crash site in Mohmand on Sunday.
A tragic helicopter crash in Bajaur has claimed the lives of five crew members while they were carrying relief material for flood-affected families. The MI-17 helicopter of the KP government went down on August 15, 2025, in the Salarzai area. Officials confirmed that all five members on board embraced martyrdom. Rescue teams from Karachi later joined local police in Mohmand to search the crash site. After extensive efforts, they retrieved the black box, which included the cockpit voice recorder, around 100 meters from the main wreckage. The device has now been handed over to the relevant authorities for further examination to help determine the cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has shared updated figures on the damage caused by recent rains and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to its report, 313 people have lost their lives in various incidents across the province. The victims included 263 men, 29 women, and 21 children. In addition, 156 people sustained injuries, among them 123 men, 23 women, and 10 children. These figures show the severe impact of the ongoing monsoon season in the region.
Relief activities continue, with both provincial authorities and rescue teams working to provide support to the affected communities. At the same time, the investigation into the helicopter crash is underway, with hopes that findings from the black box will provide clarity on the tragic accident.
