Heavy rains and floods claim 657 lives in Pakistan

At least 657 people have lost their lives and 929 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since June 26, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The nationwide death toll has reached alarming levels, with 171 children and 94 women among the victims. In addition, 437 men, 256 children, and 236 women have been injured in various incidents triggered by rains and related hazards. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the hardest-hit province, reporting 390 deaths, including 288 men, 59 children, and 43 women. The province also recorded 245 injuries. Punjab has reported 164 deaths since June 26, with children forming the largest number of victims. Among the deceased are 70 children, 63 men, and 31 women. Punjab also saw 582 people injured, including 225 men, 182 women, and 175 children.

Gilgit-Baltistan has confirmed 32 deaths, while 31 others were injured. Sindh reported 28 deaths and 40 injuries, many of them children. In Balochistan, 20 lives have been lost, most of them children, with four injuries also recorded. Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reported 15 deaths, equally split between men, women, and children, along with 24 injuries. The federal capital Islamabad has so far reported eight deaths and three injuries. Authorities said they are working closely with provincial governments to expand rescue and relief efforts in badly affected districts. Teams are on the ground delivering food, medical supplies, and shelter materials, but officials warned that continued rains could worsen the situation further.

The NDMA stressed that the priority remains saving lives and reaching remote communities cut off by floods. Relief agencies have urged the public to cooperate in ongoing operations as the country battles the severe impact of the monsoon season.
