Major update for medical aspirants as Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) announced major reform in the medical entrance examination system with launch of question bank for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2025.
Students often protested and even approached the courts, demanding a fair system. To address these issues, the council has launched a unified syllabus and a digital question bank for MDCAT 2025. Officials said the syllabus was developed with consensus from all provinces to avoid regional bias. The digital question bank aims to prevent leaks and reduce human error, making the exam more reliable.
PMDC will manage registration and monitoring, while public universities will set, conduct and mark the test. This division of roles is meant to ensure fairness. The test will be held at 30 centers across Pakistan and one overseas center in Riyadh. So far, over 97000 students have registered, and the number is expected to reach 150,000. The exam will take place in September 2025, with 180 multiple-choice questions to be solved in three hours, a reduction from 200 questions and 3.5 hours. Students must have at least 65 percent marks in F.Sc Pre-Medical or equivalent to be eligible, and they can only take the test in their home province or region.
Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal inaugurated the system and called it a turning point for medical education. Officials also hinted at more digital reforms in the future, including possible computer-based testing.
