Pakistan and Bangladesh have officially agreed to grant visa-free entry to diplomats and government officials after approval from the Advisory Council Committee.
The arrangement, valid for five years, is designed to strengthen diplomatic ties and ensure smoother official exchanges. During talks in Dhaka, Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Bangladesh’s Adviser for Industries Adilur Rahman Khan also agreed to expand cooperation in trade and industry. The discussions focused on boosting bilateral economic activity and creating opportunities for joint ventures and mutual investments.
The Commerce Minister expressed Pakistan’s strong interest in becoming part of Bangladesh’s growing industrial sector. He highlighted the potential for collaboration in manufacturing and trade, noting that such partnerships would benefit both countries. In his visit to the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the minister encouraged Bangladeshi businesses to increase imports of Pakistani products such as cement, sugar, footwear, and leather goods. He stressed that Pakistan can play a supportive role in meeting Bangladesh’s industrial and consumer needs.
The new agreement comes as relations between Islamabad and Dhaka improve following political changes in Bangladesh. The ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, and her subsequent move to India, has paved the way for a thaw in ties. Both sides now appear committed to building stronger cooperation not only in diplomacy but also in trade and industry. Officials believe these steps will create a new chapter in bilateral relations and lay the foundation for long-term economic and political partnership.
