Tragic truck accident claims 8 lives in Shikarpur

A speeding mini-truck ran over people sleeping on a footpath in Shikarpur, killing eight and injuring five others seriously.

In Khanpur, a speeding Mazda truck crashed into an electricity pole and ran over a footpath, killing eight people, including four children. The horrific crash took place at Kundan Chowrangi, within the limits of New Fojdari police station at Khanpur Bypass.

Police confirmed that the accident turned fatal for Rabia, 40, Reema, 10, Rasheeda, Sameeaa, both aged 8, Inaamullah, 12, Piari, 6, and Munni, 17. All victims died on the spot due to the impact of the collision. At least five others, identified as Suleman, Awais, Khameeso, and Vijay, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. Doctors said their condition remains critical.

According to details, the Mazda truck was transporting onions from Sukkur to Kashmore when the driver reportedly lost control. After causing devastation, the driver fled the scene, leaving behind the vehicle. Police have since impounded the truck and launched an inquiry to trace and arrest the absconding driver.

Authorities said that reckless driving continues to pose a major risk on highways, especially when overloaded trucks speed through populated areas. Residents of the area demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and heavy penalties for drivers violating safety laws. The incident highlights the urgent need for road safety awareness, stronger traffic monitoring, and preventive measures to stop such tragedies in the future.
