Poisoned Goats found sold as meat in Lahore

Police have apprehended two suspects in a shocking case where pet goats were poisoned and their meat sold to butchers in Lahore’s Green Town area.

Residents had reported mysterious illnesses and sudden deaths of pet goats for several months, with many disposing of dying animals at local garbage sites. The mystery came to light after CCTV footage revealed that a sanitation worker was mixing poisonous substances into the goats’ fodder at night, causing their deaths.

Authorities arrested one suspect, Shahid, after locals caught him collecting a dead goat. During interrogation, Shahid confessed that he and his accomplice Rashid had been carrying out the scheme for months. Police said the suspects sold the dead goats to a butcher for Rs2,000, who then distributed the meat to hotels and customers across the city at low prices. At least eight cases have been registered against the accused, who are currently in police remand.

DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran stated that human intelligence and witness accounts helped trace the suspects, as they were frequently seen near dying or dead goats. He added that further revelations are expected as the investigation continues.

Following the disclosures, police have informed the Punjab Food Authority to take action against hotels and outlets that may have served the contaminated meat. Residents claimed that between 30 and 40 goats were killed over recent months and demanded strict punishment for those involved. DIG Kamran also revealed that Shahid is a habitual criminal who had been arrested in a similar case in April 2025 but was later released on bail and resumed illegal activities. The butcher involved in the case has fled, and police are actively working to apprehend him.
