The Pakistan Meteorological Department has strongly rejected viral claims about a sudden “heat burst” expected to hit parts of Punjab.
According to the department, no such advisory or warning has been issued, and the circulating reports are completely baseless. Recently, messages on social media suggested that temperatures in southern Punjab could rise sharply within minutes, jumping from around 30°C to as high as 45°C or even 50°C during the night.
In addition, these claims warned of zero humidity, breathing difficulties, and potential damage to crops. However, the Met Office has clearly stated that these reports are not supported by any scientific data. Furthermore, officials emphasized that all weather forecasts and alerts are released only after careful analysis of verified and reliable information.
Therefore, any claim not issued through official channels should be treated with caution. The department also clarified that terms like El Niño were misused in these viral messages to make them appear more credible. At the same time, the PMD expressed concern that such misinformation can create unnecessary panic among the public. This is especially worrying as many regions are already experiencing rising temperatures. False alarms, therefore, only add to confusion and fear.
In response, citizens are strongly advised to rely on official sources for weather updates. They should avoid sharing unverified information, as it can spread quickly and mislead others. Moreover, staying informed through trusted government platforms can help people make better decisions during changing weather conditions.
In conclusion, the department has reassured the public that no extreme weather event like a sudden heat burst is expected. Hence, people should remain calm, stay informed, and trust only authentic updates for accurate information.
