Pakistan and Iran restore direct flights after two months

Flights between Pakistan and Iran resumed successfully on Thursday, marking a big step toward normal relations in aviation.

A commercial flight from Tehran landed in Islamabad, carrying passengers from the Iranian capital. This was the first such flight since authorities halted services two months ago. Tensions rose after US and Israeli attacks on Iran began on February 28, closing the skies completely.

Now that calm returns, officials announced full resumption of flights in both directions between Islamabad and Tehran. This vital move revives travel routes for passengers, businesses, and families separated by the conflict. In addition, Iran’s airports shifted back to normal operations. Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran now serves 15 key international destinations without issues.

Passengers flow smoothly through both terminals, as confirmed by Ramin Kashef-Azar, head of the airport company. Iran reopened flights to cities like Istanbul, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Bangkok, Muscat, Erbil, Kabul, Moscow, Doha, Baghdad, Najaf, Medina, and Yerevan. As a result, air travel eases across the region.

The Iranian airspace had shut down entirely after late February strikes, stopping all civilian flights. With operations restarting, skies over this part of the world open up again. This progress boosts connections and signals hope for lasting stability in regional travel.
