PCB confirms Babar Azam will miss first Test against Bangladesh

Pakistan cricket faces a major blow ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh.

Star batsman Babar Azam will miss the match due to a left knee injury. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed he cannot play the Dhaka Test starting May 8. PCB’s medical team now assesses Babar’s condition closely. They will share fitness updates soon. His absence creates a big gap in Pakistan’s strong batting lineup for this crucial World Test Championship fixture.

The two-Test series carries high stakes. Bangladesh hosts the first match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from May 8-12. The second Test follows at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from May 16-20. Pakistan sits fifth in the championship standings with one win, one loss. Bangladesh ranks eighth after drawing and losing one match each.

Captain Shan Masood leads a 15-man squad featuring Abdullah Fazal, Imad Butt, Azan Owais, Hassan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Rizwan, Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, and pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi. Saud Shakeel and Imam-ul-Haq likely step up to fill Babar’s middle-order role.

Babar’s injury timing hurts Pakistan’s campaign. The stylish right-hander anchors innings and handles spin well on subcontinent pitches. His experience proves vital against Bangladesh’s improving attack. Team management now reshuffles batting order while hoping for quick recovery.

Dhaka’s spin-friendly pitch favors Pakistan’s strong spin attack with Noman Ali and Sajid Khan. Shaheen Afridi’s reverse swing could trouble Bangladesh batsmen. However, losing Babar’s stability puts pressure on top order and middle order to deliver big runs.

Fans worry about Pakistan’s championship points. A strong start becomes essential without their key player. Medical staff works round-the-clock for possible second Test return. The nation watches closely as Pakistan adapts to this unexpected challenge.
