Govt plans new underpasses and flyover in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi’s road infrastructure advancement plans are set to witness a new boost with three more underpasses on Peshawar Road to create a signal-free corridor from Maraka-e-Haq Square to Motorway Chowk.

The journey kicked off with two flyovers on Murree Road. Now, workers finish Maraka-e-Haq Square at Kutchery Chowk a stunning hub with two flyovers, three underpasses, two overhead pedestrian bridges, and metro bus links. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently opened this key project.

Earlier wins include six underpasses and three flyovers in the twin cities, plus the 2014 metro bus service between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Completed spots feature Committee Chowk Underpass, Ammar Shaheed Chowk Underpass, Old Airport Road Flyover, and more like the Saddar Flashman Chowk, GPO Chowk, Pirwadhai Mor, and Golra Mor underpasses.

Fresh action starts on three underpasses along Peshawar Road at Qasim Market Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Charing Cross Chowk. Planners eye an underpass at AFIC Chowk, a flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk, and another underpass on Double Road at Ninth Avenue. This links smoothly to Islamabad’s existing flyover, creating a signal-free path past Faizabad.

Rawalpindi Development Authority pushes these changes to handle growing traffic as Islamabad’s twin city. Once Peshawar Road underpasses wrap up, a full signal-free corridor stretches from Maraka-e-Haq Square to Motorway Chowk. Drivers zoom straight to Islamabad Airport, Peshawar, Lahore, and Hazara Motorway without stops.

Two phases of the Rawat-to-Motorway signal-free route shine already; the third nears completion. Daily, over 200000 vehicles roll through Rawalpindi’s hottest zones. The chief minister promises this overhaul changes city life and delivers top-notch traffic ease for everyone.
