The Province Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for strong winds, thunderstorms, and rain across all areas of the province. The alert for today and through May 23 advises people to take precautions.
According to PDMA, most districts can expect sudden weather changes. Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal could experience heavy rain and strong winds. Besides, showers are forecast for different locations in Bhakkar, Layyah, Faisalabad, and Jhang. Some of these areas can expect heavy rainfall. In Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, and Khushab, bad weather may continue.
Meteorologists expect cloudy skies and strong winds in:
- Lahore
- Sialkot
- Narowal
- Toba Tek Singh
- Nearby areas
PDMA has instructed all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and rescue agencies to stay on high alert. Agencies keep drainage systems clear of blockages. Traffic control and emergency response teams are also on standby. Rescue services will continue to be on standby for incidents.
The authority asked people not to travel during bad weather if it’s not necessary. Stay clear of weak buildings, unanchored electricity poles, and tall trees. Also, do not stand under exposed wires during a storm.
Farmers received special tips on protecting their crops and animals. They should ensure greenhouses are secure. Also, move animals to safe places and harvest crops when they are ready if they can. In brief, PDMA has alerted about uncertain weather in Punjab and cautioned against it. Authorities are on alert, and people should take precautions during the event.
