Pakistan to Launch New Digital Portal for Workers’ Welfare Fund

Federal government is soon to launch a new online platform for the workers’ welfare fund.

The designers made the portal to help industrial workers in Pakistan get financial aid easily. The National Information Technology Board (NITB) developed the system. They used funds from the Workers’ Welfare Fund. The officials are testing the portal at present. Soon, they hope to get it out there.

Workers can apply for assistance via the online portal from home. First, they will submit their applications online. After that, officials will verify and review the information in the system. Last but not least, approvals and disbursements will be available on a single system. This process will help reduce paperwork. Therefore, the processing time will decrease by a large margin.

Further, the portal will enhance transparency. It will demonstrate the improvements for each case. So, employees can keep a check on their applications easily. The digital system will also enhance departmental coordination. Thus, decision-making will be quicker and more precise. The Workers’ Welfare Fund was formed under the 1971 ordinance to provide social support to industrial labour.

It offers help through housing schemes, scholarships, marriage funds, and death funds. Now, the portal will facilitate ease of access to these services. The new system will benefit more workers and families. According to officials, the portal is a big step in e-governance. Additionally, it contributes to the government’s objectives of modernisation of public services. The new system offers better, quicker assistance to the labourers.
