US releases travel advisory for American citizens in Pakistan

WASHINGTON – The United States has released a fresh travel advisory urging its citizens to exercise caution ahead of the 12th general elections in Pakistan.

The advisory, released by the US Embassy in Pakistan, emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant and informed about the locations of political rallies in planned travel areas.

The embassy highlighted that political activities in Pakistan have previously been targeted for violence, citing recent pre-poll attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

To ensure the safety of US citizens, the embassy recommends avoiding large public gatherings, exercising caution in the vicinity of demonstrations, and reviewing personal security plans.

The advisory further cautions citizens planning to visit Pakistan to stay informed about political rally locations and anticipates congestion around polling stations on Election Day (February 8). The advisory also warns about potential disruptions in internet and cellular services during this period.

Additionally, American nationals are urged to stay updated through local media, carry identification, maintain a low profile, and collaborate with police.
