ISLAMABAD – The caretaker federal government has suspended mobile phone services across the country amid ongoing polling for general elections 2024, with people complaining about internet outage in various parts of the country.
In a social media post, the Interior Ministry said the decision to suspend the mobile services has been taken in order to ensure law and order situation in the country.
Saying several innocent lives were lost in recent terrorists attack, it said that security measures are essential to provide safe environment to voters in the country.
A day earlier, twin bombings near candidates’ offices in the Pakistani province of Balochistan killed at least 28 people and injured dozens. The first explosion killed 16 people in Pishin district.
The second blast took 12 lives in Qila Saifullah. The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Polling for general elections 2024 of National Assembly and four provincial assemblies is underway across the country and it will continue till 5:00 pm without any break.
More than 128 million registered voters will cast vote for the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies seats.
