Canadian province to implement three new immigration streams

OTTAWA – In a significant move, the authorities in the province of British Columbia in Canada have revealed that the province is set to revamp its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) selection criteria in January 2025, aiming to bolster the province’s economy and provide enhanced support for international workers and students.

The proposed changes will introduce three new immigration streams, replacing the existing International Graduate and International Post-Graduate streams.

Under the revised criteria, the Bachelor’s Stream will cater to recent graduates holding bachelor’s degrees from eligible post-secondary institutions, coupled with a full-time job offer. Similarly, the Master’s Stream will target recent graduates with master’s degrees from eligible institutions, spanning all fields of study, provided they secure a minimum one-year full-time job offer.

Additionally, the Doctorate Stream will be tailored for graduates and candidates completing Ph.D. programs at recognized post-secondary institutions.

One of the key modifications includes an elevation in language proficiency requirements across most streams. The province plans to implement a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 8 for the new graduate streams, an increase from the current levels, which typically vary by occupation/category and are often lower.

Moreover, British Columbia will uphold its commitment to prioritizing invitations to apply for residence candidates with job offers in priority occupations such as healthcare, construction, and early childhood education.
