The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has released a public alert warning people about fraudulent activity by imposters claiming to be affiliated with the organization.
In order to get personal information for the attestation or re-verification of academic documents, these con artists pose as HEC representatives and demand a large sum of money for degree verification services that go above and beyond what HEC normally charges.
Recall that HEC has not granted any representatives or agents the authority to undertake attestation services, therefore stay vigilant to avoid falling for these frauds.
For these services, they also don’t reach out to specific people or place direct calls.
How to identify fake and report degree attestation service
- Make use of the official HEC Attestation Website, to confirm your degrees, go to their portal.
- For additional information, go to www.hec.gov.pk, the HEC website.
- Notify your telecom provider of any fraudulent calls.
- Send a complaint via phone at 0800-55055 or at their website, www.pta.gov.pk.
- email cpd.helpdesk@sbp.org.pk if you believe you have been the victim of financial fraud.
Use caution and don’t give out personal information to strangers or through phony websites. Before using any services, always make sure they are legitimate.
