KARACHI: The Sindh government has banned pillion riding throughout the province ahead of Ashura Muharram.
The Home Department has issued a notification to this effect wherein it communicated the executive’s decision to ban pillion riding ahead of 9th and 10th of Muharram.
The provincial government says it’s banning pillion riding to maintain law and order in the province. The notification further states that women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, differently abled persons, journalists, law enforcement agencies and private security personnel in uniform, and employees of essential services are exempted from the ban.
Moreover, the Home Department has banned brandishing firearms as well as holding processions and Majalis without a permit in the province under Code of Criminal Procedure’s Section 144 till Ashura.
Ashura is commemorated annually to remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions at the Battle of Karbla in 680 AD.
