LAHORE – The registration of the Punjab College’s Campus 10 in Lahore was revoked over alleged rape of a female student by a security guard a few days ago.
The development comes after a large number of students staged protest on Canal Road against the administration for covering up the incident. They demanded the authorities to take an action against the people involved in the rape incident.
The student was reportedly assaulted by a security guard after being trapped in the college basement during a break. After the heinous incident, Lahore police senior officials confirmed the arrest of the accused, and a special investigation team has been formed to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
Demonstrators, which included students from multiple colleges, gathered outside Campus 10 in Muslim Town to express their outrage and call for a transparent investigation into the matter. Protesters accused the college administration of failing to protect students and of creating a threatening atmosphere for those who speak out.
Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Karman stated that the Punjab college administration is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, which aligns with the provincial government’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards violent crime. However, protesters have raised concerns about the college’s commitment to safety and transparency, demanding that their voices be heard.
This incident and the subsequent protests have reignited discussions around campus safety and the urgent need for educational institutions to prioritize the well-being of their students. As the situation develops, advocates continue to push for accountability and justice for the victim.
