Nationwide processions are being observed across Pakistan and parts of world on Youm-i-Ashura under heightened security measures. The tenth of Muharram commemorated annually to honor Hazrat Imam Husain and the martyrs of Karbala with solemnity.
The heightened security measures are in place with additional security personnel deployed and mobile services suspended in major cities along procession routes. Major Pakistani cities saw increased security to prevent sectarian violence.
Massive processions are being organised, with thousands of mourners participating in mourning ceremonies and paying tribute to the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his followers in the Battle of Karbala.
President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that martyrs of Karbala taught Muslim Ummah lessons of resilience against brutality and the importance of justice and compassion for the needy. He stressed unity in confronting cruelty, drawing lessons from the historic event of Karbala. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, urging people to embody fortitude and courage in facing challenges, emphasizing equality, tolerance, and unity to address internal and external threats.
Civil leaders highlighted Hazrat Imam Hussain’s philosophy as a beacon for humanity, noting his sacrifice for truth. Interior Ministry has authorized army deployment nationwide to ensure peace during Muharram, with drones banned during processions and Majalis.
