ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ambassador-designate to the United States Rizwan Saeed is all set to assume his duties after he arrives in Washington this week.
Saeed’s appointment was announced by the Foreign Office spokesperson back in June. He had previously served as Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East and SIFC).
FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch had also announced the appointment of Asim Iftikhar as Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Asim Iftikhar has served at the ambassador to France. He would take up the new role at an appropriate time.
The spokesperson said that these appointments were part of routine diplomatic reshuffles and had been under consideration for several weeks.
The previous ambassador, Masood Khan, had already received a three-month extension after his contract ended in March, which expired at the end of June.
