In a grand gesture of national pride, President Asif Ali Zardari has announced a remarkable reward of PKR 100 million for Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic champion in javelin throw.
Nadeem won gold at the Paris Olympics with a record-setting throw of 92.97 meters, marking a historic moment as he became the first Pakistani to win an individual Olympic gold medal.
The announcement was made during a prestigious ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, where Nadeem was also awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz. President Zardari praised Nadeem’s extraordinary achievement, which has not only brought glory to Pakistan but also inspired a new generation of athletes across the country.
During the ceremony, President Zardari highlighted the importance of supporting sports talent. He proposed extending scholarships to athletes’ children and suggested that the Sindh government contribute PKR 250 million to the Pakistan Sports Board Endowment Fund. These measures aim to enhance sports development in Pakistan and support future talent.
The President also recognized the significant role of Nadeem’s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, in his success. Nadeem expressed deep gratitude for the honors and financial reward, acknowledging the support from his coaches, family, and the nation.
Following the ceremony at the President’s House, Nadeem’s victory was celebrated across various government institutions. The Prime Minister’s House and General Headquarters hosted their own tribute events.
Additionally, Chief Ministers and Governors across Pakistan have announced further accolades for Nadeem, underscoring the widespread national pride in his historic achievement.
