The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government plans to solarize all public buildings, including police stations, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, prisons, and other government offices.
It also aims to solarize street lighting and tube wells, ensuring a reliable and affordable electricity supply to state offices.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur presided over a recent meeting of the committee responsible for solarizing government buildings at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to discuss the initiative’s advancements towards a real-world implementation.
Muzammil Aslam, the advisor to the chief minister for finance, as well as other committee members attended the meeting.
The suggested action plan for the implementation of the solarization project and the electricity requirements for government buildings were thoroughly explained to the forum.
The meeting was made aware that information is still being gathered about the energy requirements of public sector offices.
Data for over 13,000 units has been gathered thus far, meaning that these public buildings would need a solar system with a capacity of about 73 MW.
It is anticipated that 92 million units of solar electricity will be produced yearly as a result of the solarization of these units.
Additionally, it was disclosed that the expected cost of completing the solarization project for government buildings is Rs 10 billion. When the project is finished, the provincial government should save about Rs2 billion a year in electricity costs.
The Chief Minister told the committee to finish all the requirements for the project’s debut within a week, stressing the need of finishing it quickly. Additionally, he ordered the completion of the remaining tasks for the project’s implementation as soon as possible.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister ordered the early start of a project to solarise seminaries and mosques throughout the province. This project will turn 3,000 mosques and 7,000 mosques into solar energy.
