KARACHI – State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced that all banks and financial institutions will remain closed on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in observance of Iqbal Day.
Saturday holiday marks the 147th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Pakistan’s national poet, whose legacy continues to inspire nation of over 240 million.
The central bank confirmed that all commercial banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will observe the public holiday.
Iqbal Day provides an opportunity for Pakistanis to honor the philosopher-poet’s contributions to literature, philosophy, and his vision for the formation of Pakistan. His ideas continue to inspire the nation’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
While banks and financial institutions will be closed, no formal announcement regarding a public holiday for Iqbal Day has been issued yet by either the federal or provincial governments
