If you thought losing your passport was the worst thing that could happen to you, just wait until you hear the government’s fine for lost passports.
The Directorate of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) recently announced a massive hike in passport fee for both normal and urgent categories. The new policy also carries a fine for citizens who’ve lost their passports.
According to details, a person trying to recover his lost or stolen passport will have to pay up to Rs356,000 in fine for losing the travel book more than once.

The fee for replacing a lost passport for the first time, on the other hand, is set at Rs54,000. However, the cost increases significantly for repeat losses, with the fee for a third-time loss now standing at Rs356,000.
The new changes aimed to enhance the passport issuance process and improve overall efficiency. Officials stated that the fee hikes are necessary to cover the costs associated with upgraded printing technologies and better services.
The revised fee structure is expected to impact a large number of citizens who are applying for or renewing their passports. Applicants will now have to consider the type of passport they need and how urgently they require it when determining the cost.
