Islamabad faces freezing cold as temperature drops to 0°C once again

Islamabad faces freezing cold as temperature drops to 0°C once again

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has once again reported extremely low temperatures across the country and parts of Kashmir on December 13, 2024, with many areas experiencing freezing conditions. Leh recorded the coldest temperature at -12°C.

Several areas experienced freezing conditions, with Leh recording the lowest temperature at -12°C. Other significant low temperatures included Astore at -11°C, Skardu at -9°C, and Quetta, Kalam, and Gupis each at -6°C. 

Hunza, Bagrot, Ziarat, and Kalat followed closely with temperatures of -5°C, while Gilgit, Chitral, and Dir saw temperatures drop to -4°C. In major cities of Pakistan, Islamabad recorded 0°C, Lahore experienced 5°C, and Karachi had a relatively warmer 12°C. 

Peshawar recorded 2°C, Quetta reached -6°C, and Gilgit stood at -4°C. Muzaffarabad and Skardu saw temperatures of 2°C and -9°C, respectively. Murree registered -1°C, while Faisalabad and Multan recorded 4°C and 6°C, respectively.

In Kashmir, temperatures also dipped to freezing levels. Srinagar was at -2°C, Jammu at 4°C, and other areas like Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramulla all recorded temperatures of around -3°C.

This extreme cold wave is impacting daily life, with authorities urging the public to take necessary precautions against the severe cold especially in regions with temperatures below freezing. These cold conditions are expected to persist in the coming days, as both Pakistan and surrounding regions brace for further winter chills.
