Punjab Police induct Afghan dogs for border security

The Punjab Police has inducted several Afghan Kuchi breed dogs to bolster security at border checkposts and assist in fighting terrorism and crime.

These dogs will play a crucial role in pursuing criminals, dispersing violent protesters, and enhancing security in sensitive areas. The dogs will undergo five months of training before being fully integrated into regular security operations.

To ensure effective supervision and training, the police will recruit 10 professional dog handlers for the Riot Management Police unit. These dogs are expected to significantly reduce casualties during high-risk operations and assist in tracking criminals escaping from border areas.

Their presence is seen as a major advantage in the fight against terrorism and crime. The Afghan Kuchi breed is particularly suited for this role due to its strong build and agility. This initiative marks the first time the Punjab Police have deployed fighting dogs alongside sniffer dogs, showcasing their commitment to adopting innovative strategies for counter-terrorism and crime control.

To support this effort, a dedicated training facility for both sniffer and fighting dogs has been established at the Police Dogs Breeding Centre and Training School in Bedian. The introduction of these trained dogs is expected to enhance the effectiveness of police operations and strengthen overall security measures throughout the province.
