The extended dry weather has caused a sharp rise in respiratory and cold-related diseases in public hospitals throughout the federal capital.
The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad is currently experiencing a surge in patients due to the ongoing cold weather. spokesperson for PIMS Dr. Mubashir Mushtaq Daha shared that the hospital’s emergency department is treating an average of 50 patients daily with 20 to 25 elderly individuals requiring hospitalization.
Additionally, over 150 patients are visiting the outpatient department (OPD) each day for conditions like colds, flu, and pneumonia. PIMS Executive Director, Professor Dr. Imran Sikander, has instructed Dr. Sharjeel, the Head of the Emergency Department, to ensure optimal care for all patients.
He also urged pulmonology department doctors to prioritize providing the best treatment for those suffering from respiratory conditions. To address the health challenges caused by the dry cold, Dr. Sikander stressed the importance of preventive measures.
He recommended that the public wear masks when going outside and drink lukewarm water for protection. He specifically urged elderly individuals to take extra care to avoid potential health complications during this period of dry weather.
Dr. Sikander reassured that PIMS is fully utilizing all available resources to deliver high-quality care to patients. The hospital remains committed to providing excellent medical services as the number of respiratory illness cases continues to rise.
