Sindh sets Rs40000 as minimum wage

The Sindh Minimum Wages Board has proposed an increase of Rs3000 in the minimum wage for various categories of workers across the province.

The Sindh government has received a proposal to increase the minimum monthly salary by 8.1 percent, raising it from Rs37000 to Rs40000. This increase is planned to take effect from July 1, 2025, and will apply to 60 industries across the province. The proposal was submitted by the Sindh Minimum Wages Board and published in the official government gazette.

It suggests new wage rates for different categories of workers:

  • Semi-skilled workers: Rs41280
  • Skilled workers: Rs48910
  • Highly skilled workers: Rs50868

People can submit their objections to this proposal within 14 days of the notice. The board clarified that these are minimum wage rates, not limits. If a worker is already receiving a higher wage, employers must not reduce their pay. Employers can also choose to pay more based on experience, location, or cost of living.

These new rates will apply to full-time workers, including those on temporary or piece-rate jobs, once officially notified by the Labour and Human Resources Department of Sindh. Meanwhile, at the federal level, the government has approved a 10 percent salary increase for its employees, including those in the armed forces and civil armed forces. Pensions have also been increased by 10 percent. The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification, confirming that this raise applies to both permanent and contract employees.
