The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has cancelled the provisional No Objection Certificate (NOC) for sale and advertisement previously issued to Bahria Town Karachi (BTK) on September 19, 2022.
The Sindh Building Control Authority has revoked the No Objection Certificate of Bahria Town Karachi after the Supreme Court of Pakistan made adverse orders in CMA 8758/2018 on 23rd November 2023. The authority decided that the housing project did not submit the complete title of the land, and defaulted in the payment of 460 billion rupees in installments due by August 31st, 2026.
The notification stated that Bahria Town Karachi’s failure to meet these commitments put the security of 16,896 acres of land in jeopardy, and that the provisional NOC issued by the SBCA earlier had lost its validity. The authority further stated that maintenance of the NOC would mislead the public and indirectly condone illegal practices. The decision was formally approved by the 20th held by the authority on September 3, 2025. The notification unequivocally directed all concerned parties to cease all selling, purchasing, booking or advertising of plots or built units under Bahria Town Karachi immediately.
Concurrently, the SBCA confirmed that the rights of current allottees would be protected under the orders of the Supreme Court. Officials stated that although the project management had failed to honour their promises, the individuals who had already committed to the scheme would not be unprotected. This decision once again puts the future of one of the biggest housing projects in the country into question. Authorities believe the action was taken to uphold transparency, security of land, and allow the court’s decision to be properly applied.
