E-bike demand rises under Punjab’s green credit scheme

Punjab has witnessed a sharp increase in the registration of e-bikes under the provincial government’s Green Credit Program.

Spokesperson Sajid Bashir said that e-bikes are helping reduce noise, smoke, and traffic congestion across the province. Under the Green Credit Program, citizens receive Rs50000 upon purchasing and registering an e-bike. Riders receive the second installment of Rs50000 after completing 6,000 kilometers in six months and uploading the record on the Green Credit app, bringing the total support to Rs100000.

Earlier, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced a Rs100000 reward for bikers who convert their petrol bikes into electric vehicles. She added that the government has launched a forestry initiative that allows citizens and industries to adopt parks and forests to help offset their carbon footprint. The environment department has also included tree plantation in the green credit program, offering financial incentives for eco-friendly steps.

Key Points of the Green Credit Program

  • Rs50000 given on e-bike purchase and registration.
  • Extra Rs50000 after driving 6000 km in six months.
  • Direct transfer to bank account or mobile wallet.
  • Incentives also available for tree plantation.

The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has encouraged citizens to visit the official website of the Green Credit Program for details, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable and clean transport.
