The Deputy Commissioner of Sheikhupura, Shahid Imran Marth, has announced a local holiday on September 24 in connection with the Urs of the renowned Sufi poet Syed Waris Shah.
The notification stated that government and semi-government offices across the district will remain closed on this day. The Urs of Syed Waris Shah holds great cultural and spiritual importance in the region, and the celebrations will continue for three days. A large number of devotees and pilgrims are expected to participate in the Urs. To manage the gatherings smoothly, the district administration has prepared a comprehensive security and traffic plan.
According to the administration, the Urs not only reflects deep-rooted cultural traditions but also strengthens spiritual values. Special arrangements are being made to ensure the safety and convenience of the pilgrims, while local authorities will remain active to provide necessary support throughout the celebrations.
This annual Urs attracts thousands of people from across Punjab and other parts of the country, making it a significant event for Sheikhupura. The administration emphasized that the holiday will allow people to fully take part in the Urs and honor the legacy of Syed Waris Shah, whose poetry continues to inspire generations.
