Faisalabad to roll out 30 e-buses on seven routes

As many as 30 electric buses have arrived in Faisalabad, which will be operated on seven routes in the city.

The district administration has announced that three bus depots are being set up in Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Sargodha Road, and Gutwala Road to support the upcoming electric bus service in Faisalabad. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate the project in the coming days.

Officials said the service is designed to provide commuters with affordable and reliable transport while reducing the city’s growing traffic pressure. They added that introducing electric buses will also cut reliance on fossil fuels and significantly lower urban air pollution levels. The project is part of the provincial government’s Green Initiative, which has already launched electric transport projects in other major cities. Authorities highlighted that students and elderly citizens will especially benefit from the new service due to its low fares and improved accessibility.

With Faisalabad struggling with chronic traffic congestion and worsening air quality, local officials expressed hope that the electric bus project will create a more sustainable alternative to existing transport options. The initiative also reflects the government’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly urban development and reducing the environmental impact of transport systems. The formal launch of the service is expected later this week, offering residents of Faisalabad a cleaner, safer, and more efficient public transport system.
