Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reached New York to attend the high-level segment of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Upon arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was welcomed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, and senior mission officials. According to the Foreign Office, Ishaq Dar will accompany the Prime Minister in key meetings, represent Pakistan in high-level ministerial sessions, and hold more than a dozen bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to use his UNGA address to draw international attention to pressing global issues. He will highlight the unresolved disputes of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine, stressing the need for the international community to uphold the right to self-determination.
The Foreign Office confirmed that the Prime Minister will especially raise concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and demand decisive global action to end the suffering of Palestinians. In addition, Pakistan’s address will focus on regional security challenges and other international issues such as climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, and sustainable development.
The Pakistani delegation will also attend several high-level side events, including meetings of the UN Security Council, the Global Development Initiative, and a special session on climate action. Bilateral engagements with world leaders and senior UN officials are also planned to strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual interest. Pakistan’s participation in the UNGA this year aims to amplify its stance on global peace, justice, and equitable development.
