Trump presents 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan, Hamas set to review

The White House has unveiled a 20-point proposal it says could bring an immediate halt to Israel’s war on Gaza, which has killed more than 66,000 Palestinians and left the Palestinian enclave in ruins.

The proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of 20 living hostages within 48 hours, and the return of 24 bodies. In exchange, Israel will free 250 life-sentenced Palestinian prisoners and 1700 Gaza detainees, including women and children. The plan outlines the destruction of Hamas’s offensive weapons, general amnesty for fighters who surrender, and safe passage for those willing to leave Gaza. It further calls for humanitarian aid, fair distribution of relief supplies, no forced evictions, and the return of displaced residents. Hamas will have no role in Gaza’s future governance.

Under the proposal, a temporary interim government made up of Palestinians and international experts will manage Gaza, supported by an international security force. Reconstruction efforts will follow through the Trump Economic Development Plan. The Palestinian Authority will undergo reforms to take eventual control of Gaza. The deal also includes a phased Israeli withdrawal, banning reoccupation or annexation of Gaza. A roadmap will be established toward Palestinian statehood after political and economic reforms.

Trump claimed that Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, and Indonesia, have expressed support. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir backed the initiative. Trump warned that if Hamas rejects the agreement, Israel will have US support to eliminate the group. Netanyahu endorsed the plan, saying it guarantees that Gaza will not threaten Israel again. Qatar and Egypt have already delivered the proposal to Hamas negotiators, who confirmed they are reviewing the details but have yet to give a formal response.
